Why TAPIR, The Amsterdam Picture Room?
To provide a space for photographers, well known and less well known, where they can show – and sell – their work. A space for small get-togethers, lectures, workshops, anything to do with photography.
What is TAPIR, The Amsterdam Picture Room?
My studio.
Don’t you need it?
I do. TAPIR, aka The Amsterdam Picture Room, aka TPR Amsterdam – TPR for short – has a pop-up character. It is not a gallery and I am not a gallerist. I am a photographer with a nice place in a fantastic location, so when possible, I might as well share it.
Who writes the blog posts?
Me.
What’s your name?
Bettiena Drukker
Tell me more.
I did, and do, free-lance portrait, documentary and illustration assignments for, amongst others, Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam, various magazines, private commissions, posters, CD’s and book covers. I have had exhibitions in Paris, in various galleries in the Netherlands, as well as in the theatre Carré (which has acquired the entire series on the renovation). My work is in the collection of the Jewish Museum in Amsterdam and in private collections. I have taught at the Fotoacademie in Amsterdam for many years.
More and more, I have concentrated on what I call ‘narrative photography’: series of images about historical figures, often not very well-known, sometimes imaginary even. I combine landscapes, stills, portraits and text; photographic and digital manipulations serve to support the stories. The stories, which are always the heart of the matter.
I guess the images reveal my theatrical background – the photograph as a stage set: the picture becomes an illusion, a mere association with reality.
Where can we see your work?
There’s our Youtube channel, there’s my personal website, and below are a few links:
